Solo Sun-Ray Phoenix

Hi friends,
I will be showing how to stomp with Phoenix today. I will also be adding video clips for brief demonstrations and walk through. Similar to all my posts, i'm just going to be talking pretty briefly. Not like an ordinary 'guide'. This is just a guide of how effective it can be in pubs from my experience. Before anyone sends me hate messages, this is only my opinion on how to beat pubs from my experience. Any hate messages in the comment section will not be deleted most likely (opinions are opinions). After spending years playing DotA (the not-so greatest community in gaming) I have learned to ignore people to a great extent. So don't bother posting anything derp. Zzz

Solo Sun Ray Build

Phoenix's skills are composed of Icarus Dive, Fire Spirits and Sun Ray.
I'm going to ignore Fire Spirits as it is pretty useless early game except against more aggressive heroes. But that is not the point. The point is to BE aggressive against THEM.

So at the start you would want to get Icarus Dive and Sun Ray.
Icarus Dive is Phoenix's escape ability. Using this ability it is able to escape almost anything except for really fast heroes and blinkers but you should not have to worry about getting caught till mid-late game when Phoenix becomes extremely vulnerable.

Sun Ray is the skill in which people say Phoenix is overpowered. This skill has gotten a nerf at the beginning of February but it's still very useful due to the amount of damage at the beginning of the game and the range which stretches to about 1000.

Sun Ray drains 25% of your hp when cast so the only time you should be using Sun Ray is when you know they can't harass you or when they just start running away. Sun Ray also has a button you need to press in order to move. You should always keep max range on the Sun Ray. What I do, I click 'e' (the movement hotkey) to move phoenix a few steps if the person is trying to walk away from the sun ray and I release 'e'. This way I can keep max range for defensive purposes. This may also block sight if it's night-time and you can control the Sun Ray better since you are not moving.

I used this build solo against many high elo player's in the DotaCash pub ladder and it seems to have no flaw to it except for Priestess of the Moon and Queen of Pain. Heroes such as Shadow Fiend, any hero with no disable or any slow hero will get WTFPWN'D. If you are planning to solo, you should acquire Observer Wards at the beginning and place them at the opponents river at Lvl 3. That way you can Sun Ray from ledge to ledge with full sight.

Phoenix's ultimate should be used more for aggressive purposes then defensive. It's pretty fragile since at lvl 1 it only requires 5 hits, that should only take 2 seconds if there are 2 heroes attacking you. If there is only 1 hero attack you then its pretty safe. The trick is to use it in team fight situations, this ultimate will greatly effect the outcome due to the chaos it ensures. So to get the full offensive effecency, one should dive and make sure to hit each hero. In the middle of the dive, after you have hit the heroes press the ult button and you should have a few free kills. If you die that means your team is really bad at playing offensively. When phoenix ult's the whole team should be trying to disable/do as much damage as possible, not running away.
Pictures shown below gives a example of the range and when to use Sun Ray. Rhasta and CM are just fodder soloing against phoenix.

Items, Bloodstone (especially useful if owning at the start), AC. are more primary choices. Anything after that, you should have already won the game. If not, get a heart and/or guinsoo.

Sorry no videos atm, it's impossible to record phoenix with fraps.
Here is a few photos of when the range of Sun Ray. Ledge to Ledge is a dangerous combination!

Here is me soloing against a group of high elo stompers trying to get first blood by ganging up at LVL 1only to get WTFPWN'T by Sun Ray. Keeping my range and knowing when to attack. Salve is also extremely useful on phoenix since you can use it after you trigger sun ray.
